Gavon Ramsay Case

A 17-year-old was sentenced by a Medina County judge Thursday evening for the heinous murder of a 98-year-old woman.

Gavon Ramsay, an 11th grade student at Wadsworth High School, received life in prison without parole for the brutal and disturbing murder of Margaret Douglas.

Ramsay pleaded no contest in November to murdering Douglas. She was found in her home on Portage Street underneath a pile of clothes and a vacuum inside of a confined closet in April 2018.

The 9-count indictment for Ramsay, who is being tried as an adult, includes charges for aggravated murder, kidnapping, and aggravated burglary.

According to the prosecutor, Ramsay recorded himself brutally attacking the woman while she was asleep on her couch. He then used Douglas’ dead body to please himself sexually while recording the acts.

On a separate occasion, Ramsay also allegedly communicated with a homosexual man through an online dating app, then assaulted him when the two met in person, according to details presented by the prosecutor.

A forensic psychologist who testified during sentencing diagnosed Ramsay with conduct disorder, alcohol and cannabis abuse disorder, and ADHD.

Other witnesses who were called to the stand to testify include Ramsay mother and father.

Gavon Ramsay News

A 17-year-old boy has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the strangulation death of a 98-year-old Ohio woman.

Gavon Ramsay was sentenced Thursday after pleading no contest in November. A judge found him guilty of aggravated murder, gross abuse of a corpse and other charges after his plea.

The body of Margaret Douglas was discovered in her Wadsworth home in April after she had been reported missing.

Ramsay was arrested after the woman’s pocketbook was found in his family’s home.

WEWS reports Ramsay and Douglas were neighbors.

Investigators also found photos of Douglas sleeping in Ramsay’s phone and a journal describing fantasies about strangulation.

Investigators believe Ramsay walked through an unlocked door of Douglas’ home, strangled her, stuffed her body in a closet and then covered her with clothing.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports Ramsay then returned to his home five doors down before his parents awoke at 5 a.m.

Ramsay issued an apology before his sentencing and plans to appeal.

“I’d take it back in a heartbeat if I could,” he said. “I feel terrible for what I’ve done and I will never do anything like that again … I constantly live in regret and shame because of it.”

Medina County Common Pleas Judge Joyce Kimbler said she found Ramsay to be “irreparably corrupt” and “unfit to re-enter society.”

“This crime was depraved and premeditated and of a nature not previously seen in this community,” the judge said.

Lynne Luna Jones, a forensic psychologist, diagnosed the teen with seven disorders. She said he doesn’t appear to want to change his behavior and he shows a “callous disregard for the harm he causes.”

Ramsay’s parents blamed his actions on misprescribed medication. Christine Ramsay said her son began to behave strangely after he was prescribed Zoloft.
