Michael John Anderson Case
A judge in Scott County, Minn., sentenced Michael Anderson to life in prison without the possibility of parole for killing a woman he found on Craigslist.
Scott County District Judge Mary Theisen told Anderson, 20, she felt he showed no remorse during his six-day trial for killing 24-year-old Minneapolis resident Katherine Olson, the Star-Tribune newspaper in Minneapolis said Thursday.
“You have shown no remorse, no empathy, and I have no sympathy for you,” Theisen said Wednesday.
Anderson was convicted Tuesday of premeditated murder for killing Olson on Oct. 27, 2007, after finding her through a Craigslist posting for a babysitting job. Olson’s body was found in the trunk of her own car by police.
The victim’s mother, Nancy, described to Theisen a recurring dream she has had of her slain daughter, the Star-Tribune said.
“She appeared to me as a 24-year-old, naked, with a bullet hole in her back and crawled into my lap,” the mother told the judge. “I cradled her for a long time trying to protect her from the cruel world.”

Michael John Anderson News
The Minnesota Supreme Court has upheld the murder conviction for Michael John Anderson, of Savage, who was convicted of luring a young woman to his home with a fake babysitting ad on Craigslist.
The court heard arguments in the first-degree murder case in March and ruled on the case today (Thursday, Oct. 14.)
The court rejected Anderson’s defense attorney’s ar-gument that he did not receive a fair trial in the shooting death of Katherine Ann Olson on Oct. 25, 2007.
A Scott County District Court convicted Anderson in March 2009 of first- and second-degree murder and sec-ond-degree manslaughter. He was sentence to life without parole.
First-degree murder convictions are automatically appealed to the Supreme Court.
The Court rejected Anderson’s attorney’s arguments that the District Court erred in excluding expert testi-mony about Asperger’s syndrome, a form of autism. His attorney’s argued that information was needed to explain Anderson’s physical appearance and his demeanor to the jury.
Judge Christopher Dietzen wrote the decision and Justice Paul Anderson wrote a concurring opinion. But Anderson “strongly” recommended that the state courts revise instructions on premeditation.
