According to court documents Andrew Willson was involved in an argument with his mother, Lisa Marie Willson, over keeping a puppy that he had brought home weeks earlier. Lisa Marie Willson attempted to reaason with her son saying the puppy would have to stay with his father who lived twenty miles away

Andrew Willson reacted by grabbing a .22 Magnum rifle from a locked cabinet and shooting his mother in the back of the head

Andrew would call 911 and told the operator that he had found his mother dead

After being questioned by police Willson would admit to the murder

Andrew Willson would plead guilty to murder and was sentenced to seventeen years in prison

A young mid-Michigan man who pleaded guilty but mentally ill to killing his mother while she slept has been sentenced to at least 17 years in prison.

The Lansing State Journal reports 20-year-old Andrew Willson was given his punishment Wednesday in Ingham County Circuit Court after entering the plea in October to charges including second-degree murder. In exchange for the plea, a first-degree murder charge was dropped.

Willson apologized, saying his misses his mother “so much.”

His mother, 51-year-old Lisa Willson, was found shot in the head at their home in Ingham County’s Wheatfield Township on Sept. 8, 2017. Willson’s attorney has said that at the time of the shooting Willson was in the midst of a major depressive episode and had been hearing voices ordering him to kill her.

A young mid-Michigan man charged with killing his mother as she slept has pleaded guilty but mentally ill in the case.

Andrew Willson, 20, entered the plea Wednesday in Ingham County Circuit Court to charges including second-degree murder.

A first-degree murder charge is being dropped in exchange for his plea.

Sentencing is scheduled Nov. 7 and Willson faces up to life in prison.

Willson’s attorney Stephen Milks says at the time of the shooting Willson was in the midst of a major depressive episode and had been hearing voices ordering him to kill her.

A judged ruled that Willson is competent to stand trial for the murder of his mother Lisa Marie Willson in January of 2018.

According to police the teen admitted to shooting and killing his mother because she would not let him keep a puppy.
