A teen pleaded no contest after being charged in two fatal shootings that happened two months apart in Albuquerque.

Andres Herrera pleaded no contest for his first-degree murder charges. This comes after he was charged as an adult, despite being a juvenile when the shootings took place in 2023, according to Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman.

The first shooting Herrera was accused of happened in early October 2023 in northeast Albuquerque. He was accused of shooting Phillip Apodaca, who was found to be shot several times in the back outside a brewery.

The next shooting happened two days after Christmas Day 2023 at Sundoro Park in northwest Albuquerque. That shooting resulted in the death of 19-year-old Damion Alday.

Security camera showed the suspect firing at the victim from close range. An arrest was made for the park shooting in January 2024.

Bregman said Herrera bragged about the shooting on social media, where he described the details of the second shooting.

Herrera faces the possibility of two life sentences and will be sentenced as an adult.
