Annika Aleman And Amaya Medrano News

Two people were arrested in connection with a fatal shooting at a north Oak Cliff gas station earlier this month, and one is facing a capital murder charge.

On Nov. 8, shortly before 3:30 p.m., Dallas police were called to a shooting in the 300 block of South Marsalis Avenue. Officers found Ahmad Alkhalaf, 66, who had been shot. Alkhalaf was taken to a hospital, where he died.

U.S. Marshals Service officials arrested Annika Aleman, 18, on Nov. 15, the second arrest since the shooting, according to Dallas police.

Court records say 19-year-old Amaya Medrano and Alkhalaf communicated through Facebook Messenger and scheduled a meet-up as Alkhalaf was attempting to sell an iPhone.

According to court documents, the two are seen talking on surveillance video. Moments later, Medrano turned to run and Alkhalaf followed behind. Medrano turned around and shot him.

Medrano told police she and Aleman had discussed taking the iPhone without paying for it. Medrano said they had planned only to flash the handgun if she needed to but not shoot it, an officer wrote in the affidavit.

“This demonstrates Suspect Aleman had agreed to use the gun if necessary and only to point it but not shoot it if necessary to gain and maintain control of the phone,” the officer wrote. “This demonstrates Suspect Aleman’s knowledge and involvement in the offense as she provided Suspect Medrano with the gun and buy money used in the offense.”
